Eddie’s
rocket science
Sunday, July 02, 2006 - By Adrian Weckler
Replacing it is
a high-tech Casio IT10 handheld gadget which takes and logs orders from
burger-hungry customers. The device, programmed by Captiva Software, is
splash proof, dustproof and has a battery life of up to 24 hours on a
single charge.
Waiters can now take several orders in succession
without having to report to the kitchen each time.
And chefs get
all their orders printed out on the kitchen printer, without having to
talk to waiting staff or read inscrutable dockets. The gadget has also cut
down on the risk of under-charging, a cost concern to any fast food chain
which charges €8 for a burger.
‘‘The benefits of this solution are
countless, including an increase in speed of service and overall user
friendliness,” said Jonathan Parkhill, operations manager of Eddie
Rockets.
Such benefits include staff being liberated to devote more
time to customer service at each patron’s table, including cleaning up
spills and reminding patrons of the Nitelink schedules.
The device
will be introduced in all 25 Eddie Rockets’ outlets in the next
year.
