Eddie Carty returned from the US after eight years working in
restaurants there.
He teamed up with Mark Allen, whose background
was in software, to field a team with expertise in the crucial sectors of
food delivery.
Captiva was the first company to recognise the
importance of collection and delivery orders for traditional restaurants.
It is now critical for restaurants to provide these services from
Sunday to Thursday. The visual point of sale (POS) system enables
restaurants to manage all sectors of the business from eat in, delivery,
collection and takeaway.
Captiva provides easy-to-use, effective
software and is now the market leader in back-office services to the pizza
home delivery market and restaurant PoS. It offers integrated stock
control with a simple way to track and distribute orders for the home
delivery market.
Franchise chains can centralise order taking and
relay local orders across a private network.
``We were probably the
first Irish company to start writing our own software for that sector,''
Carty said. ``We do an integrated system which includes the touch screen
and software together. We sell it, we maintain it, we do everything from
our base in Dublin. We cover the whole island.''
With a high
turnover of staff in restaurants, the system excels by being simple to
use. ``It needs very little training on it,'' he said.
A package
starts at €3,500 for systems, software and installation.
``For
franchised outlets, Captiva utilises the latest broadband technology to
provide a powerful, secure, high-speed connection between head office and
individual outlets, placing critical business information at the
fingertips of operations managers,'' Allen said.
A number of agents
have been appointed in Britain to progress expansion and a handheld
touchscreen is to be launched. It will fit into a waiter's hand for order
taking and relay to the kitchen from the diner's table.
